CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
Please note that registration is voluntary and does not create any contract or other legal relationship or obligation between you, WALKTALK or any of the organisations or individuals sponsoring or organising WALKTALK. The purpose of registration is to allow WALKTALK to provide you with information about the events and to help WALKTALK give the police and other authorities accurate information about the likely number of participants at each event.
What you will receive upon registration:
Booklet explaining what WALKTALK is all about and some great ideas to encourage conversation in your community and inspire you to take the first step and approach someone who you have never met before.
Age Restrictions:
Children of all ages are welcome to join the WALKTALK event. Participants under the age of 18 on the day of the selected WALKTALK event must be under the care and supervision of a guardian at all times. It is the adult guardian's responsibility to ensure that the child is able to complete the WALKTALK event. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or over on the day of the selected WALKTALK event.
Personal Details:
All participants must provide a home address with postcode, together with an emergency contact name and telephone number that will be available on the relevant day of the event. This should not be someone else participating in the walk.
Police and Local Authorities: The police and local authorities have kindly agreed to support WALKTALK for parts of the WALKTALK event and they will take all steps that they consider necessary to ensure that your safety and well-being is maintained whilst also minimising any disruption to other traffic and road users on the WALKTALK route. Please ensure that you take all steps to comply with any reasonable directions from the police or other officials helping to organise the WALKTALK event.
Walk Difficulties:
The majority of the route should be on surfaces or roads where most people should be able to comfortably walk the distance without difficulty.
Walk Duration:
Each official WALKTALK event will be between 1-5 miles and will take approximately 2 hours in duration. Please remember that the routes will not be circular and if you have not organised transport you will have to retrace your steps to where you joined the walk.
Public Transport:
We advise that you use public transport where possible to start the walk and to return home. Your regional contact may be able to advise on the most suitable transport.
Car Parking:
Should you bring along your car, you will need to find a suitable place to park near to the start of the walk. We cannot accept any responsibility for the security of vehicles.
Suitability for Pushchairs and Wheelchairs:
Most surfaces should be accessible for both pushchairs and wheelchairs although we cannot guarantee that this will always be the case.
Suitability for Dogs:
Dogs can be brought along but they must be kept on a lead and controlled at all times and used to walking in crowds.
Toilets:
Toilets will not be provided so it is up to you to ensure that you find suitable toilet facilities along the route.
Refreshments:
Refreshments are not provided so it is recommended that you bring adequate food and drink to sustain you throughout your walk. Please take all litter home with you. On NO account is alcohol to be consumed during WALKTALK.
Don’t Forget to Bring:
Suitable walking shoes and attire, outdoor clothing in case of rain and sun cream.
